Patriot’s 2010 Season Kicks Off!

By James Dalman

It is finally here!

The Middle School has a game tonight at 6:30 p.m. versus the Riverside Indian School in an 11 man contest. We are the home team and the facility we have rented is at Life Christian Academy on Anderson Road between I-40 and I-240.

The high school varsity has their first game tomorrow night, September 3rd, against Oklahoma Christian Academy. Their new field is not ready, so we are playing at Oakdale which doesn’t have bleachers or lights, so the game will kickoff at 5:30 pm.  Please plan on bringing lawn chairs.  The address is 10901 N. Sooner Rd.  Please park by the school and walk to the football field.

Here is the Varsity Schedule as we currently know it:

Friday, September 3 @ 5:30 at Oakdale, we are visitors against Oklahoma Christian Academy
Friday, September 10 @ 7:30 at Destiny Christian School in Del City – visitors
Friday, September 17 @ 7:30 at Life Christian Academy, we are the HOME team against Rejoice Christian
Friday, September 24 @ 7:30 at Community Christian School (11man) in Norman
Saturday, October 2 @ 7:00 we are visitors and the game will be in the Tulsa area
Friday, October 8 @ 7:30 at Community Christian School in Norman we are visitors against Southwest Christian Academy
Friday, October 15 @ 7:30 at Life Christian Academy
Friday, October 22 - open date
Friday, October  29 @ 7:30 @ Gracemont
Friday or Saturday November 5 or 6 – We will host a home game for the Dallas HSAA 11man game – Location TBD

We only currently have 3 high school JV games scheduled – next season we are hopeful to have more numbers and therefore more JV games:

Monday, September 10 @ 6:00 at Destiny Christian School
Monday, September 27 @ 6:00 at Community Christian School
Monday, October 11 @ Mt. St. Mary’s (11 man)

We are also in desperate need of several things.  Please consider helping us out!

  • Videographers: We need two (2) people for each Middle School game and two (2) for each varsity game.  One video camera can be provided by us, but we also need a 2nd video camera and tripod for the second person.  WE NEED THIS TOMORROW NIGHT!!! The videographer/filmer can be a parent or a responsible sibling.  This is a big need!!
  • For our two home games we need gate keepers, concession workers, chain gang, and someone willing to be the announcer.
  • We also need someone to lead and take over for the communication team – - a vital piece that will help everyone.

Many people signed up for these duties at our banquet last year and we are asking for your to honor your commitment and give us a hand. Please contact Coach Sikes ASAP 405-255-3698 if you are willing to help in any way.

Lastly, the varsity will practice on Monday, September 6 from 5:30 to 7:30. We should have enough transportation to get everyone to Coach Sikes house for films and pizza from 8:00 to 9:00.  Films are not mandatory.  If you need to pick up your son, feel free to join us for films.

Second Spring Practice on May 8th, 2010

By Bobby

For those of you who didn’t know it, we had our first practice on April 10, 2010.  We had an overview of the offense and defense and learned several drills we will be doing this season.

Our next and likely last Saturday practice will be next Saturday at the practice field from 8:30 to 11:30 on May 8, 2010.  If you think there is even a possibility that you will play next season then you need to be at this practice.  It will be shorts, t-shirts and cleats.

We will have a week of Spring Camp from May 17 to the 22nd.  We plan to be in shorts, helmets, and shoulder pads for most if not all of this Spring Camp.

A bit of housekeeping:  Each player needs to sign up for a free account on Hudl (Hudl sign up instructions are here) and this needs to be done before next Saturday.  The player can use a parents email address or one of their own and there is a bit of a homework assignment to get use to Hudl (it is covered on the instructions).  Hudl is a web based software that allows us to watch film.  THE HOMEWORK IS TO BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO PRACTICE!  Hudl cannot handle any sound so I also posted some videos with sound on the website (click here).  These videos cover the concepts that were addressed during our first practice. There are seven videos and they are password protected, the password has already been sent to everyone on our email list. If you are not on our email list, please email us to let us know.

If you missed our first practice or are fuzzy on some of the things we covered, then you are expected to invest some time away from practice to view these videos and get up to speed on the concepts we covered.  So here is an outline of who should watch what if you were not there:

  • Entire Team should watch the Offense overview and the Defense overview (2 different videos)
  • Offensive Centers, Guards, Tackles, and Tight Ends should watch the two videos covering 1.)stance and 2) the first two steps and fit
  • Defensive Linemen, Ends, Tackles, Noses, and Vipers should watch the video on Defensive Line Techniques
  • Linebackers and inverts (outside linebackers) should watch the video on Linebacker Drills Phase I
  • Corners and Free Safeties should watch the Defensive Back Drills Video covering Catching and Range drills

We will be doing these drills plus building on them and I don’t want to spend the time to go back and explain any of them, so please be familiar before practice.

We are going to have a fun and rewarding season, I look forward to seeing you all there.  If you have a conflict, please let me know.

Thanks,

Coach Sikes
