High School Spring Camp

By AndreaPflughoft

HIGH SCHOOL SPRING CAMP starts for all 2012 season high school Patriot Football players, current 8th grade through 11th grade for the 2011/2012 school year (which will be 9th grade through 12th grade for the 2012/2013 school year);  It is VERY IMPORTANT not to miss any of the Mid-High players who are moving up to high school next season!  Call them if you know them!  And BRING YOUR HIGH SCHOOL AGED FRIENDS!!!

It’s time to get started working toward a great 2012 football season!!

We will practice Monday, May 7th.  We will also practice Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of that week.  We will NOT practice the week of the 14th so the All-State guys can participate in that event.  We will have our 2nd week of Spring Camp starting Monday, May 21st.  We will practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of that week.

Each day’s practice will be from 5:30 to 8:00 each evening.

This is only for the 2012 high school football players.  The Mid-High may do some things this summer, and if Coach Bedwell decides to move forward with those sessions you will get that information in other emails.

Help round up any potential Patriots who may not receive this email as we need to get much accomplished during these two weeks of Spring Camp.

We need to work hard looking forward to a great 2012 football season!

2011 Patriot Players Take Field With Latest Helmet Technology

By Tom Hurley

New for the 2011 season all Patriot players, both High School and Middle School, will be wearing the latest in football helmet technology. The Xenith football helmet is a revolutionary helmet design that is completely different from any other helmet on the market. Check out the Xenith web site to learn about the unique benefits of this helmet over the traditional Schutt or Riddell designs – http://www.xenith.com/football/innovation/

We tested a dozen of these helmets last season and were very pleased with the result so the decision was made to outfit the entire program with Xenith’s. We have been able to make these and other equipment upgrades while continuing to keep the player fees very reasonable – Patriot player fees are lower than any other similar program in the region.

Below is a brief explanation of the Xenith technology:

Xenith® was founded with the goal of reducing the risk of concussive episodes by providing both innovation and education. We’ve created an innovative product, and we’re committed to delivering the education needed to complement that product. When you choose Xenith, you’ll see things differently. You’ll become enlightened.

Xenith Adaptive Head Protection® is a system of integrated technologies designed to reduce the sudden movement of the head by adapting to different energy levels. It provides optimal performance when players need it most.

Traditional padding materials are designed primarily for high-energy impacts: they are too dense and stiff for low to medium impacts, and can’t adapt to impact energy. This causes the head to move suddenly during impact, increasing the risk of a concussive episode.

Change of Practice Time Because Of Heat!

By Tom Hurley

I sent an email out yesterday to just the players and parents we currently have signed up for the 2011 season.
The email you are receiving now has been sent to the broader audience of folks who want to keep up with the Patriots (including players and parents), and also to the non players and parents.  We need to know if you SHOULD HAVE received yesterdays email but did not.  We need to make sure that those who need to be on the list about changes in practice schedule and such do indeed receive the emails.
If you need to be added to the list that gets informed of practice schedule changes and such, please respond and note that you need any information about changes in team schedule etc.  You only need to send an email with that request if you DID NOT receive yesterdays email.
Below is the email that went out yesterday.
At least for tomorrow night, let’s plan to start and end practice an hour later than we had originally planned.  This will let the average temperature during practice drop a couple of degrees.

Sorry for this change, but these high temperatures are difficult to deal with.  Parents be assured, we will be extremely careful as we know many of the players have not prepared themselves for the heat.  They will adapt quickly, but for tomorrow night, Monday, August 1st we will practice 6:30 to 9:00.

School has not started, so I feel a bit more comfortable about this late time slot for this week.  Some families are starting school next week, so I am doubtful that we will start and end this late next week.

I am hopeful that there will be a break in the weather by next week.  We can’t afford to skip a week of practice so we must practice this week.

Please respond to this email IF this places your family in a hardship.  As we try to determine what we do for the rest of the week, the feedback will be helpful.  If this schedule change creates a challenge for too many of the families, then we need to consider that information.

Once again I am sorry, but it is for the safety of the players and coaches.  And if you did not get the word yesterday, then START DRINKING WATER NOW!  And each coach and player should bring their own jug of water or better yet something with electrolytes in it (Gatorade or Powerade or something).  The team will provide water and plenty of breaks, but if everyone brings their own  it will help the guys be able to get a drink ANYTIME they feel it is needed.

Tiffany Davis has done a great job of cleaning up the email lists, but lets don’t count on just that form of communication.  Please communicate the change to others on the team so that everyone gets the word.  If you know of someone who should have received this email, but did not, then let us know immediately.

Thanks,

Coach Sikes

Practice starts Monday at 5:30!!

By Tom Hurley

Well it’s here, and its hot!  We are going to have to take it a bit easier than normal.  These temps are not normal and we will adjust our practice intensity accordingly.
Start drinking lots of extra water NOW.  Don’t wait until Monday.
We will have water for the team, but each player (and coach) should bring their own individual water jugs with water and or sports drink.  We will hydrate often.
We will be in shorts and shirts until the temps drop a few degrees, but we would be in shorts and shirts the first few days of practice anyway.
There will be a bit of administrative work to do on Monday, so be there a few minutes early if possible.  We will start at 5:30 and be done at 8:00 sharp.
Play Hard, Act Right!
